Spring into Storytelling in the NSW New England region
Terms & Conditions
The High Country Writers Retreat is facilitated by Michael Burge Media and Virginia Eddy of Boorama, at Waterloo Station Shearer’s Lodgings, Glen Innes, a renovated rural accommodation destination designed for groups.
Hand-washing/sanitising and social distancing will be in place at the venue. All participants must comply with these measures.
The High Country Writers Retreat is designed to provide writers of partial or complete manuscripts (long- or short-form fiction and/or non-fiction/memoir/journalism; screenplays and/or plays) with guidance on how to prepare their writing projects for presentation to the publishing industry, or to independently (self) publish.
The High Country Writers Retreat is not a manuscript completion service or a publisher, and does not guarantee publication or sales of participants’ writing projects.
1-day participants of the High Country Writers Retreat will be catered for lunch, morning and afternoon tea, including beverages. Vegetarian options will be available.
Multi-day participants of the High Country Writers Retreat will be catered for breakfast, lunch, dinner and morning/afternoon teas on Saturday October 24 (vegetarian options will be available); breakfast on Friday October 23, Sunday October 25 and Monday October 26; and are welcome to join the festival team for dinner on the evening of Friday October 23 at a Glen Innes restaurant (meals and drinks at own expense). All other meals are self-catered with basics available at the Waterloo Station Shearer’s Lodgings kitchen.
All Retreat participants should bring warm clothing in the event of cool weather, and appropriate clothing and footwear for country bushwalking if they’d like to explore Waterloo Station.
Retreat participants will be given an orientation of the property soon after arrival, and must comply with all health and safety directives of the facilitators and Waterloo Station management. Hand-sanitising and social distancing measures will be in place and must be adhered to by all participants.
1-day Retreat bookings are confirmed only upon the submission of the online booking form and receipt of a booking email.
Multi-day Retreat bookings are confirmed only upon receipt of full payment, after which a confirmation email and receipt will be sent.
Confirmed 1-day Retreat bookings may be cancelled up to 5pm on Thursday October 22 by contacting Michael Burge on 0400 977 816. If holders of confirmed bookings do not attend and do not cancel by contacting Michael Burge by the cancellation deadline, they will be invoiced $50. This is a completely un-funded event being run with much community generosity… we ask that you don’t take it for granted!
Confirmed multi-day Retreat bookings may be cancelled up to 14 calendar days prior to the event. Cancellation requests after this time must be made directly with Michael Burge on 0400 977 816, and will only be permitted due to provable unforeseen circumstances, not change-of-mind or sudden unavailability. Such bookings may be transferred to other participants.
Michael Burge Media and Virginia Eddy may need to cancel or alter the retreat at any stage due to state health regulations. For those who’ve booked a multi-day retreat a full refund will be provided via online transfer in the event of cancellation.
