Weaponizing Blogging and Website Building Platforms

Blogging and website building platforms are being abused by bad actors.

With the promotion of illegal goods, violent activities, and dangerous and harmful materials on blogging and website building platforms, the industry faces a systemic problem

To understand the scale of abuse, ActiveFence surveyed some of the largest blogging and website-building platforms. Within the platforms investigated, we found that:

  • 33% host child sexual abuse material
  • 100% host official terrorist content, including content that incites violence and depicts the murder of civilians and captured soldiers
  • 100% are used to share racial, religious, and nationalistically motivated hatred, including content that incites violence

In this report, we share how ActiveFence identified this harmful content using cross-platform specialist research and analysis of metadata.
